Laser Hair Removal

Smoother skin. Less shaving. More confidence.

Laser hair removal is designed to provide long-term reduction of unwanted hair on the face and body.

At Crystal Confidence Aesthetics, I use advanced 4-wavelength diode laser technology (755 nm, 810 nm, 940 nm and 1064 nm), allowing treatments to be tailored to different skin tones and hair characteristics.

How does it work?

Laser light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment within the hair, and converted into heat. This heat damages structures within the hair follicle responsible for growth, helping to reduce future hair production.

Because hair grows in different cycles, multiple sessions are needed. Laser is most effective when hairs are in their active growth (anagen) phase.

Results vary between individuals, but you may notice less hair, slower apparent regrowth and finer remaining hairs as your course progresses. Maintenance treatments may occasionally be required.

Who is suitable?

Laser hair removal can be suitable for a broad range of skin tones when appropriate technology and settings are used.

Dark brown and black hair generally respond best because they contain more melanin. White, grey and very light blonde hair usually cannot be effectively treated, while red hair may also respond poorly.

Areas We Treat

Treatments are available for women and men and include:

Face & Neck • Underarms & Arms • Bikini & Intimate Areas • Legs • Back & Shoulders • Chest & Abdomen

Consultation & Patch Test

Before starting treatment, your skin type, hair characteristics, medical history, medications and recent sun exposure will be assessed.

A patch test is carried out where appropriate, and your laser settings are selected specifically for your skin and hair.

Certain medications, medical conditions, active skin concerns or recent tanning may mean treatment needs to be postponed.

The aim is simple: appropriate treatment, realistic expectations and long-term hair reduction.

Frequently asked questions

How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?

Laser hair removal requires a course of treatments because your hairs are not all growing at the same time.

Laser is most effective when hair is in the active anagen (growth) phase. Only a proportion of hairs are in this stage during each appointment, so treatments are repeated at carefully planned intervals to target new groups of actively growing hairs.

Many clients require approximately 6–10 sessions, although there is no universal number. Your treatment area, hair thickness and colour, skin type, hormones and individual response can all influence how many treatments you need.

Some people also choose occasional maintenance sessions after completing their initial course.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal is more accurately described as long-term hair reduction rather than a guarantee that every hair will disappear permanently.

After a successful course, you should have significantly fewer hairs growing in the treated area. Remaining or returning hairs may also be finer and less noticeable.

Hormonal changes, certain medical conditions, medications and natural changes over time can stimulate new hair growth, which is why maintenance treatments may sometimes be beneficial.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most people tolerate diode laser hair removal very well.

The sensation varies depending on the area, hair density and individual sensitivity. You may feel brief warmth, tingling or a snapping sensation as the laser pulses.

Your comfort and skin response are monitored throughout your appointment, and treatment parameters are selected for your individual skin and hair rather than simply using the highest possible energy.

Can laser hair removal be used on darker skin?

Our 4-wavelength diode system combines 755 nm, 810 nm, 940 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths, allowing treatment to be adapted across a broad range of skin tones.

However, darker skin contains more melanin, so correct assessment and treatment parameters are particularly important.

Your skin type and current skin colour will therefore be assessed before treatment, and a patch test is required before beginning your course.

Does laser work on blonde, red, grey or white hair?

Laser needs melanin (pigment) within the hair to work effectively.

Dark brown and black hair generally responds best.

White and grey hair contains little or no melanin and therefore usually cannot be effectively treated with conventional laser hair removal.

Very light blonde and red hair may also respond poorly. I'll assess your hair during your consultation and give you realistic advice before you commit to treatment.

Do I need to shave before my appointment?

Yes. You'll be given specific preparation instructions before treatment.

The hair normally needs to be shaved close to the skin so that laser energy can target pigment within the hair below the skin without unnecessary heating of long hair sitting above the surface.

Please don't wax, pluck, thread or epilate the treatment area before or between laser sessions. These methods remove the hair from the follicle—and we need that hair structure present for the laser to effectively target it.

Can I shave between laser appointments?

Absolutely.

Shaving doesn't interfere with your laser course because it cuts the hair at skin level rather than removing it from the follicle.

If you need to remove hair between appointments, shaving is generally the recommended method.

Why can't I wax or pluck between appointments?

Laser relies on pigment within the hair structure to deliver energy towards the follicle.

Waxing, threading, tweezing and epilating pull the hair out from the root, temporarily removing the target the laser needs.

That's why you'll normally be asked to stop these methods before starting your course and throughout treatment.

What happens to the hair after laser treatment?

Don't expect every treated hair to disappear immediately.

Over the following days and weeks, successfully treated hairs may gradually loosen and shed from the follicles.

Sometimes this can look like the hair is continuing to grow, when it's actually being pushed towards the surface before shedding.

Avoid pulling the hairs out. Allow the process to happen naturally and follow the aftercare instructions provided.

Can I have laser hair removal if I'm tanned?

Recent tanning can increase the amount of melanin in your skin, which can increase the risk of unwanted skin reactions.

This includes natural sun exposure, sunbeds and tanning products, although they affect treatment in different ways.

You'll receive guidance on avoiding tanning and excessive sun exposure around your appointments.

Always tell me if your skin colour has changed since your previous treatment. Your settings may need to be reassessed or your appointment postponed.

Never hide a recent tan just because you don't want to miss an appointment—your skin safety comes first.

Can I use fake tan?

Fake tan should not be present on the treatment area when laser is performed.

You'll receive instructions explaining when to stop using tanning products and when you can safely restart them.

The treatment area should be completely free from fake tan at your appointment.

What should I avoid before my treatment?

Your individual preparation instructions will be provided during your consultation, but generally you'll be asked to:

Avoid waxing, plucking, threading and epilating

Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure

Remove fake tan completely

Shave according to your pre-treatment instructions

Arrive with clean skin without deodorant, perfume, oils or creams on the treatment area

Tell me about any new medications or changes to your health

Please don't stop prescribed medication simply to have laser treatment. Tell me what you're taking so suitability can be assessed appropriately.

What should I expect after treatment?

Temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling around individual hair follicles can occur following laser treatment and usually settles.

You'll receive personalised aftercare instructions, which may include temporarily avoiding excessive heat, vigorous exercise, hot baths or showers and other activities or products that could irritate the treated skin.

Sun protection is particularly important for exposed treatment areas.

If you experience an unexpected or prolonged reaction, contact Crystal Confidence Aesthetics for advice.

Can laser help with ingrown hairs?

Laser hair reduction can be particularly helpful for people who experience recurrent ingrown hairs associated with shaving or other hair-removal methods.

As the amount and thickness of hair are reduced, there may be fewer hairs available to become trapped beneath the skin.

However, laser isn't a medical treatment for every cause of bumps, inflammation or skin lesions, so the area should be assessed first if you're unsure what's causing them.

Can I have laser hair removal while pregnant?

At Crystal Confidence Aesthetics, laser hair removal is not performed during pregnancy.

There isn't sufficient evidence to establish the safety of cosmetic laser hair removal during pregnancy, and because treatment is elective, it can simply be postponed.

If you become pregnant during your course, let me know and we'll pause your treatments.

Can men have laser hair removal?

Of course.

Laser hair removal isn't just for women.

Common treatment areas for men include the back, shoulders, chest, abdomen, neck, arms and other suitable areas.

Your treatment plan will be based on your individual hair growth, skin type and goals.

How often will I need appointments?

Treatment intervals depend on the body area and its hair-growth cycle.

Appointments are usually spaced several weeks apart and may be adjusted as your course progresses and regrowth becomes slower.

Rather than booking treatments unnecessarily close together, I'll recommend intervals based on the area being treated and how your hair is responding.

Why do I need a consultation and patch test?

Because safe laser treatment should never begin with “Let's just try a setting.”

Your consultation allows me to assess your:
Skin type • Hair colour • Hair thickness • Medical history • Medications • Sun exposure • Previous hair-removal methods • Treatment goals

A patch test allows us to assess your skin's response to the selected treatment parameters before proceeding with a full treatment.

It's also your opportunity to ask questions and understand exactly what you can realistically expect from your laser journey.

When might laser hair removal not be suitable?

There are circumstances where treatment may need to be modified, postponed or avoided.

These can include certain medications, medical conditions, active skin conditions or infections, pregnancy, recent tanning or sun exposure and other factors identified during consultation.

Suitability is assessed individually rather than relying on a generic checklist.

If I don't believe it's appropriate to treat you, I'll explain why.

Book your consultation and patch test and let's find out whether laser hair removal is right for you.
