Carbon Facial Treatment

Deep cleanse. Gentle exfoliation. Fresh, glowing-looking skin.

A Carbon Laser Facial combines a specialised carbon lotion with laser energy to exfoliate the skin, remove surface build-up and refresh its appearance.

How does it work?

A thin layer of carbon is applied to cleansed skin. The laser energy is strongly absorbed by the dark carbon particles, which rapidly heat and fragment as the laser passes over the skin.

This helps remove surface oil, debris and dead skin cells, while the controlled thermal effect can support collagen remodelling over time.

What can it help with?

A Carbon Laser Facial may improve the appearance of:

  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Oily or congested skin
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Uneven texture
  • Mild uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines

It can also be useful for oily or acne-prone skin, although it is not a treatment or cure for acne.

What does it feel like?

You may hear small snapping sounds as the laser interacts with the carbon. Most people describe the treatment as comfortable, with some warmth or light tingling.

Downtime is generally minimal. Temporary redness, warmth, dryness or mild flaking can occur.

When will I see results?

Skin can feel smoother and look fresher and brighter after treatment. Improvements in texture and collagen-related changes develop more gradually.

Whether you need a single treatment or a course depends on your skin and what you'd like to improve.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Not necessarily. Your skin, current condition, medical history, medications and recent sun exposure will be assessed before treatment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Carbon Laser Facial?

A Carbon Laser Facial is a laser-assisted skin treatment that combines a specialised carbon lotion with laser energy to exfoliate and refresh the skin.

A thin layer of carbon is applied and allowed to dry. The carbon coats the skin and superficial pore openings, binding with surface oil and debris.

Laser energy is then strongly absorbed by the dark carbon particles, causing them to rapidly heat and fragment.

As the carbon is removed, it provides a gentle exfoliating effect while the controlled thermal energy delivered to the skin can also support collagen remodelling over time.

Is a Carbon Facial the same as a Hollywood Facial?

Yes. You may hear this treatment called a:
Carbon Laser Facial • Carbon Peel • Carbon Laser Peel • Hollywood Facial

The terminology varies, but they generally describe the same principle of using a carbon lotion together with laser energy.

What can a Carbon Facial help with?

A Carbon Laser Facial may help improve the appearance of:
Dull or tired-looking skin
Oily or congested skin
Enlarged-looking pores
Uneven skin texture
Superficial skin-cell build-up
Mild unevenness in skin tone
Fine lines
Overall skin brightness and freshness

It's particularly popular with clients who want their skin to feel cleaner, smoother and refreshed without an aggressive resurfacing treatment.

Does a Carbon Facial clean your pores?

The carbon lotion can bind with surface oil, debris and dead skin cells, including material around superficial pore openings.

When the laser interacts with the carbon, the carbon and associated surface debris are removed, creating an exfoliating and cleansing effect.

However, I don't describe the treatment as literally “vacuuming everything out of your pores” or “removing toxins”—those are marketing claims rather than an accurate description of how the treatment works.

Can a Carbon Facial reduce enlarged pores?

It may help improve the appearance of enlarged pores, particularly when congestion and oiliness contribute to their visibility.

However, pores are a normal part of your skin and cannot be permanently “closed” or removed.

The aim is healthier-looking, smoother and less congested skin—not poreless skin.

Can a Carbon Facial help oily skin?

It can be a useful treatment for suitable oily or congested skin.

The carbon-assisted exfoliation helps remove surface oil and build-up, while laser-induced thermal effects may temporarily influence sebaceous activity.

Results vary, and oil production is also influenced by factors such as hormones, genetics, skincare and environmental conditions.

Can a Carbon Facial help acne?

It may be helpful as part of a wider treatment plan for some oily, congested or acne-prone skin.

However, a Carbon Facial does not cure acne.

Acne is a complex inflammatory condition, and severe, painful, nodular, cystic or persistent acne may require assessment and treatment by a GP or dermatologist.

Does it remove acne scars?

A Carbon Laser Facial should not be marketed as an acne-scar removal treatment.

It may gradually improve general skin texture and the appearance of mild superficial irregularities, but established or deeper acne scarring often requires different or more intensive treatment approaches.

Does a Carbon Facial stimulate collagen?

The controlled thermal effect created during laser treatment can trigger a healing response within the skin and support collagen remodelling.

Collagen changes happen gradually rather than immediately.

With appropriate treatments, this may contribute to improvements in skin texture, firmness and the appearance of fine lines over time.

Will it remove pigmentation?

A Carbon Facial isn't the same as a dedicated pigmentation laser or IPL treatment.

It may help the skin appear brighter and more even overall, but if your primary concern is sun spots, age spots or another form of pigmentation, I'll assess the pigmentation first and determine whether a more targeted treatment would be appropriate.

Most importantly, not every brown mark should be treated with laser.

Does a Carbon Facial hurt?

Most clients tolerate the treatment very well.

As the laser interacts with the carbon, you'll hear distinctive snapping or popping sounds and may feel warmth, tingling or a very light snapping sensation against the skin.

The sound can sometimes seem more dramatic than the sensation itself.

Why does the laser make a popping sound?

This is one of the most distinctive parts of a Carbon Facial.

The dark carbon particles strongly absorb the laser energy. They rapidly heat and fragment as the laser passes across them, creating the characteristic snapping or popping effect.

So although it may sound dramatic, it's an expected part of the treatment.

Will I see results after one treatment?

Many clients notice that their skin feels smoother and looks fresher or brighter after a single treatment.

However, the result depends on your skin and what you're trying to improve.

If you simply want an occasional refresh or pre-event glow, an individual treatment may be appropriate.

For concerns such as persistent congestion, oiliness or texture, a course of treatments may provide more gradual improvement.

Is there any downtime?

Carbon Laser Facials generally involve minimal downtime.

Immediately afterwards, your skin may look slightly pink or feel warm.

Some clients may experience mild dryness, sensitivity or light flaking as the skin settles.

Responses vary, so it's sensible not to schedule your first treatment immediately before an important event.

Can I wear makeup after a Carbon Facial?

Your skin may be temporarily more sensitive following treatment, so I recommend allowing it time to settle.

If your skin remains warm, pink or sensitive, avoid immediately applying products that could cause further irritation.

You'll receive specific aftercare instructions following your treatment.

What should I avoid before treatment?

Your individual preparation instructions will be discussed during your consultation, but generally you should:
Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning
Avoid sunbeds
Tell me about any recent skin treatments
Tell me about changes to your medications or medical history
Avoid deliberately irritating the treatment area
Follow any instructions regarding active skincare products before treatment

Please don't stop prescribed medication simply to have a cosmetic treatment. Tell me what you're taking so I can assess your suitability safely.

What should I avoid after a Carbon Facial?

You'll usually be advised temporarily to avoid:
Excessive heat
Saunas and steam rooms
Very hot showers or baths
Strenuous exercise
Swimming
Harsh exfoliation
Retinoids, acids and other potentially irritating active skincare
Excessive sun exposure

Do I need to wear SPF afterwards?

Yes.

Sun protection is important following laser-based skin treatments because your skin may temporarily be more sensitive to UV exposure.

Using an appropriate broad-spectrum SPF and avoiding excessive direct sun exposure also helps protect the results of your treatment and your overall skin health.

Can everyone have a Carbon Facial?

No cosmetic laser treatment is suitable for absolutely everyone.

Treatment may need to be modified, postponed or avoided depending on factors such as:
Your current skin condition
Certain medications
Relevant medical conditions
Active infection
Damaged or significantly irritated skin
Recent tanning or excessive sun exposure
Recent skin procedures
Other contraindications identified during consultation

Your safety always comes before performing a treatment.

Can I have a Carbon Facial while pregnant?

At Crystal Confidence Aesthetics, elective laser skin treatments are not performed during pregnancy.

Because a Carbon Facial is a cosmetic treatment, it can simply be postponed until an appropriate time after pregnancy.

Can I have a Carbon Facial before a special occasion?

Potentially, yes.

Many people enjoy Carbon Facials because they can leave the skin looking fresh, smooth and bright with relatively little downtime.

However, everyone's skin responds differently.

If you've never had the treatment before, I wouldn't recommend scheduling your first session immediately before a wedding, holiday or important event.

Planning ahead gives us an opportunity to see how your individual skin responds.

What's the difference between a Carbon Facial and IPL Skin Rejuvenation?

They're different treatments with different targets.

A Carbon Laser Facial focuses primarily on exfoliation, congestion, oiliness, texture and general skin refreshment, alongside controlled thermal stimulation.

OPT/IPL Skin Rejuvenation uses broad-spectrum light and can more specifically target suitable pigmentation and vascular redness while also providing a rejuvenating effect.

Neither treatment is automatically “better”.

The right choice depends on what we're actually trying to improve in your skin.

Why do I need a consultation?

Because choosing a treatment should start with understanding your skin—not choosing whichever facial is trending on social media.

During your consultation I'll consider your:
Skin type • Current skin condition • Main concerns • Medical history • Medications • Skincare routine • Sun exposure • Treatment goals

Not sure whether a Carbon Facial is what your skin needs?

You don't need to choose your treatment before you arrive.

Tell me what you see when you look at your skin and what you'd like to improve, and we'll start from there.
